Permanent Anchors

Permanent Anchors

Permanent anchors come in many different shapes, sizes and types, and TEAM Rock Anchors specialise in conceivable single form that is used in the construction industry.

TRA’s standard all-in-one service includes all elements of the anchor construction (supply of all materials, fabrication, installation, grouting, testing, tensioning, lift-off testing).  TRA will also supply installation and stressing certification.

In situations where an anchor length is not already stipulated, TEAM can design the bond length themselves and provide a design certificate upon completion of the works, in addition to the installation and stressing certification.

TEAM Rock Anchors carries current Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Permanent Multi-strand Anchors

TRA has a tried and tested system for multi-strand permanent anchors, which we have already employed on a number of projects, including; Springfield Tower; Polaris; Coolangatta Radar Tower; North South Bypass Tunnel (Zone 3, 4 & 5 – Shafston Avenue, Ipswich Road, Toll Road Control Centre); Police Barracks.

TEAM’s multi-strand system ranges from a single strand of working load 150 kN to 27-strands that accommodate over 4000 kN (400 ton force +) of tension capacity.  With typical permanent anchors double-encapsulated and sheathed in sinusoidal HDPE, design lives can stretch to 100 years.

TRA owns tailor-made sinusoidal sheathing tooling that is in accordance with the Road Traffic Authority specification: the primary permanent anchor specification for Australia.

Permanent Stressbar Anchors

TEAM Rock Anchors also specialise in permanent stressbar anchors, which are high-strength, 1000 MPa grade threaded bar, used mainly in Civil & Infrastructure retention and construction works.  We have installed stressbar permanent anchors on the Boggo Road Busway and North South Bypass Tunnel (Zone 3 – Shafston Avenue) projects.

As with the multi-strand anchors, the stressbar is encapsulated in a sinusoidal sheathing providing a design life of up to 100 years.  Standard threadbar sizes allow for a safe working load of up to 660 kN, but non-standard sizes allow for a far greater load.

Permanent Rock Bolts

Similar to permanent stressbar anchors, rock bolts are a lesser grade – 500 MPa – of threaded and are more common.  Ranging in size from 20 to 40mm in diameter, rock bolts are most commonly found in Infrastructure retention systems and can be both actively or passively (nominally) tensioned, usually against, or encapsulated-in, shotcrete walls (click here to read about our shotcrete service).

These too can deliver a 100 year design life if so required with a galvanised coating and then either an additional coating of epoxy or secondary encapsulation in sinusoidal sheathing.

Galvanised-only bar is also just as commonly utilised, however, providing a 5-20 year design life span for a vast variety of purposes such as; retaining walls; hold-down bolts for towers; uplift restraint anchors; ground stabilisation.

TEAM Rock Anchors has installed threaded, permanent rock bolts on a number of projects, including; Rockhampton Fishing Piers; St. Andrews Hospital Car Park; Boggo Road Busway; North South Bypass Tunnel (Zone 3, 4 & 5 – Shafston Avenue, Fig Tree,); Greenslopes Private Hospital; South West Transport Corridor (Centenary Highway Extension); Thomson Street Tweed Heads; Great Barrier Reef Yacht Club (Hamilton Island); Bruce Highway Upgrade (Bribie Island Interchange section); Lourdes Hill College.

Permanent Rock Nails / Soil Nails

The terminology “nail” is usually reserved for 500-grade standard “N” reinforcing bar, particularly cogged bars (passive nails without bearing plates or nuts).  Ranging in size from 12 to 40mm in diameter, rock nails, as with rock bolts, are most usually used in Infrastructure retention systems and are encapsulated in shotcrete walls.  They are also commonly used as vertical hold-down anchors for pad footings and sump pump and lift / stair core bases.

Although rock nails cannot be tensioned – unless they are post-threaded – TRA can perform load testing on the cogged bars, in accordance with Main Roads specification MRS 11.03.

As with rock bolts, nails can be galvanised, epoxy-coated and sleeved in sinusoidal sheathing so as to provide up to a 100-year design life if required.
